Back-to-School Fundraising with Goziana Kehinde for Children in Northern Nigeria
My Story – How I Emptied My Entire Savings to Buy Shoes for Children in Northern Nigeria
Anytime my dad is working on his laptop, I love to be nearby, watching him work. One day, while he was on a Zoom call with his friends, I noticed something on his screen that caught my attention. They were discussing plans to construct a school in a rural African community.
Out of curiosity, I asked, “Dad, why are the children not wearing shoes?”
As I looked more closely, I saw pictures of children with bare feet. I felt a deep sadness. I turned to my dad and said, “Can you empty my savings so I can buy them shoes like mine?”
As it’s back-to-school season, I’d like to invite other kids and parents to join me in donating school supplies to these children, including items such as scissors, pencils, crayons, and backpacks.
It’s your girl,
G.O.Z.Y.
The Bigger Story – Why This Matters
Every year, DaBible Foundation travels to remote parts of Africa to evangelize and disciple people for the Lord Jesus Christ. In April 2025, we visited a village called Zam (real name withheld for security reasons). This is a place marked by years of religious persecution and displacement.
When we arrived, we discovered something heartbreaking: more than 250 children had never been to school. They couldn’t read, write, or even dream of getting an education. After our outreach, as some families came to faith in Christ, we realized: How will these children grow spiritually and socially if they can’t read or write?
God led us to start a school for the children of Zam. Today, we have over 150 students and five young missionary teachers with a passion for evangelism and education.
How Goziana Saw What Adults Couldn’t See
During one of our planning meetings, Goziana saw some pictures on her dad’s laptop. While most adults focused on the big issues, she noticed one simple but powerful thing — the children had no shoes.
We often bring shoes, clothes, and food during our outreaches, but this time, our new students came wearing their only set of clothes and no footwear.
At just 6 years old, Goziana turned to her dad and asked,
“Can I buy shoes for them? I’d love them to wear Crocs like mine.”
Her dad asked, “Are you sure?”
This moment marked the beginning of Goziana and her 4-year-old sister Gozienna’s journey into missions.
How Two Little Girls Made a Big Difference
For years, Goziana had been memorizing Bible verses and posting them on her mom’s Instagram account. Each verse earned her $1, and she had been saving all of it in her piggy bank.
That night, the images of the barefoot children kept replaying in her mind. She went to her dad and said,
“Please empty my entire savings. I want to buy shoes for the children in Zam.”
Her younger sister overheard and shouted,
“Dad, empty my account too!”
Just like Barnabas in the Bible, these two young girls laid down their treasures to bring comfort to others. Their dad sent the money to our missionaries in Nigeria with instructions to buy Crocs for the children.
The Impact
With Goziana’s donation, we purchased 50 pairs of shoes and 120 pairs of socks for the children in Zam.
Although she has never been to Nigeria, her generosity has already left a lasting impact on the lives of children she has never met. Truly, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:15)
